Well I didn't have time to update my blog from last week... sorry. I was busy studying like CRAZY for a biology exam that I had on Monday. Then on Friday I had a O-chem quiz so all week I was busy studying for that and so I do not have any pictures from this week or really anything to tell. My days were full of studying, studying, and more studying. In fact so much so that I have all of my Homework that I technically should have worked on during the week now for this weekend! The good news is that I got a 92 on my Biology exam and an 84 on my O-chem quiz (this is the highest grade I have ever gotten in a chemistry class on a exam/quiz). So that was quite a blessing from the Lord and a wonderful experience to have.
So this week will really be an update for last week. I do have a lot of pictures from last week :)
Lets start with Monday. Monday FHE we all got together and had a snowball fight. The snow was not the right kind for a snowball fight, but it was fun anyway. We all went out into a field and the snow was up to my knee. Let me tell you it is very hard to run and try to throw any amount of snow when you are attempting to run through knee high, iced-over snow. In the end we all spent a good 10-15 mins out there and had Hot Chocolate after. I have a beautiful bruise on my leg from where the ice layer of the snow hit it every time I fell over. It never hurt, just very beautiful.. These pictures are of how I looked after I had thawed off a little, I think Christina had more snow on her in the end though. she got more into it then I did.

During the last week we had some beautiful ice storms. Here are some pictures of the after affects. These are always fun to see, they make the world look like a winter wonderland. The only real downside to them is the danger they present to drivers and how cold it is in the mornings walking across campus to class.
This was my favorite picture. This is a weeping willow tree that was covered in Ice. I couldn't get to close to it, because I had to run to class, but it was BEAUTIFUL!!!
On Friday I had the opportunity to go to a mixer with some special visitors. These visitors were coming to talk to students on campus about how to do well in life, and what they should do with their lives. They are all well to do in their own lives (high up in companies/running their own companies). I had the opportunity because of all that I had finished to go to this mixer and talk to them. I was really nervous about going, but it was fun. It was a lot like the parties that we used to go with Mom at Christmas Time that Penn University would put on for the Doctors, just a little less fancy. Sarah helped me understand a lot more of what I should expect and helped me be much better prepared. So Shout out to my amazingly awesome sister for helping me with this.
This is what I wore. I did look a little better than this, these are pictures from the night before when I was trying to figure out what I was going to wear.

At the actual mixer it was not appropriate setting to take pictures. but this was one that everyone was taking a picture of. The conference that the visitors were going to speak at is called Power to Become. So this is an advertisement thing they had. If you can't tell it is covered in Donuts :D Super Yummy.
On Thursday was my O-Chem lab. Another fun lab in the book for me :D I believe this is my first time ever running a lab all on my own, no lab partners. In this lab we mixed two chemicals together, and then by mixing a bunch of other chemicals with the mixture we were able to extract the original two mixtures. Then test how pure the chemicals we extracted were.
In this picture I am just trying to show you how the machine worked. we put our chemicals in these tiny glass tubes, so small we couldn't really see them, and then put the tubes in this machine. This machine heated up and then allowed us to watch the chemicals to measure their melting point. This was one of the ways we measured how pure the extracted chemicals were.

This is what the Machine looks like from the front. If you look really really really really close at the top of the machine you can sort of see an outline of the tube we inserted. This is just to give you an idea of how small they actually were. and then how magnified the machine made them look to us. Science is cool :)
And below is what it looks like looking down the tube. These two chemicals are the same ones, It was the end of lab and we were trying to go fast so two of us were running the machine at the same time. lucky for us these machines are made to hold three tubes at a time, as you can probably tell from the picture.
You know it is going to be a good class when your Bio. Teacher is using a babies toy to teach about proteins. It was surprisingly very understandable and the toy actually helped a whole lot!
And then comes Friday. The Power to Be conference. It was a two day conference but I only had the time to go on Friday. There were a lot of amazing speakers and some really wonderful things said at this conference. It ended up being more of the speakers telling their stories and then telling us how important it is for us to trust in God and work hard. We had a comedian for the last hour. He was so super funny! I loved that he was committed to doing only clean jokes, and still so funny. The seat I chose had a green light that shined right at my face the majority of the time. so the placement was a bit unlucky, but it was very fun.

During dinner that they fed us the drumm line came in and played for us. I didn't even know we had a drum line until last P2B confernce, since we don't do any competitive sports or things like that. But it was super awesome. sadly I was sitting at the back of the room so by the time I was able to squirm to the front they were leaving so this was the only picture that I was able to get of them.
And this is the comedian that performed for us. He only does private showings so you can't find a show of him, It is mostly if you are at a conference that has hired him.
This Monday (like this week, not last week) I had my Bio exam. So last Saturday I spent the day studying. I thought I would show you all one of the ways that I have found helps me study. You know those movies of teachers who have the kid write on all the board something like "I will not ....." until the board is all filled, and then if they are lucky they can do it to all the other boards in the classroom? Well I have discovered that this is actually a wonderful way to memorize things! So I got a piece of whiteboard that is paper size and that is exactly what I do.
This is a picture of just one of the many mechanisms that I had the opportunity to memorize for this past O-Chem Quiz. For those who don't know what a mechanism is, It is a drawing that shows a chemical reaction and how the electrons flow in said chemical reaction.
And now a silly picture. Here is a smiley face, inspired by Dad and family.
